The pattern behind night elf names

The best-known night elves have a given name and a surname made of two nature words. Starfall, Shadowsong and Stormgrove follow that rule, and it is easy to copy.

Moon, night and owl imagery appears everywhere, because the people honor a moon goddess. A name such as Elaris, Priestess of the Moon carries the whole culture in five words.

Using night elves in a campaign

A sentinel order makes a good faction: they guard a grove, watch a border and distrust outsiders. The Elf Name Generator and High Elf Name Generator give nearby peoples with different manners, while the Drow Name Generator covers the cousins who left.

Druids lead many of these stories; the Druid Name Generator adds more, and the Elven City Name Generator names their cities in the trees. For the forest itself, try the Forest Name Generator.

Naming shrines, groves and rituals

The people in this style are tied to the moon, so their places should be too. A moon shrine, a silent grove or a star-watching terrace gives the characters somewhere to belong, and the name of the place can reuse the same parts as the names of the people.

Rituals follow the same rule. A ceremony called the Night Vigil or the Silver Hour tells players that the culture keeps a calendar, and it gives you a date to threaten.

If you need a villain, make him a former priest who left the grove. His name should echo his old order, so the players feel that he once belonged.
